National Youth Theatre
I have been a member of NYT since I was 16 years old and when I had the chance to come on one of their summer courses those many years ago it set me on the course to be the maker I am today. I have enjoyed a diverse relationship with NYT, having experienced many different roles over the 12 years since joining. My interest in facilitation was peaked by having the chance to course assist on some of their courses, before also performing in their summer season in James Graham’s Relish. I returned after a gap to step into Company Management and was involved in managing two of their Summer Courses before undertaking the same role for NYT’s Welcome Ceremonies at London 2012. This involved managing 180 young people at The Olympic Village and ended in walking in behind Team GB at The Paralympic Games- an incredible moment.
More recently I have stepped up to the role of Course Director on their Summer Courses and have just finished delivering my second course. Spending 2 weeks giving 30 young people an introduction to NYT’s ensemble ethos and a tool kit for making their own work. The two weeks culminates in a show with two courses coming together and making a 20 minute performance with 60 young people.
